The InDesign file extension (INDD) is the official format for the software program Adobe InDesign. If you don’t know how, here’s a simple guide to help you out. When you need a less-dense file type, consider converting the INDD to a file type like JPG. I hope that’s enough to get you started with it.The INDD offers so much to users, it’s often forgotten that sometimes so much is too much. You never lose your CR2 files and you can always set the parameters back to the “Reset to Shot Settings” again, or try any other combination of values that you might want. It will automatically be named using an unique number at the end of the name. Once you’ve made your various parameter choices, you can click the “Convert and Save in file” selection again, and that file will be created with this new set of parameter selections. You get to make these choices after the fact and see what you like instead of being locked into settings that you made beforehand. This is one of the powerful things about shooting in RAW. But the cool thing is that because you’ve got RAW files (CR2s) to work from, you can test any possible combination of settings after the fact and see what you like the best. This will bring up a dialog which has all of the same parameters as the camera has. If you want to try different settings for any of the parameters, you can also do that by selecting any single CRW thumbnail and then going to the View(V) menu at the top of the window and, from the resulting drop-down menu choosing “Tool Palette”. The JPEGs will be created using the default settings which will be whatever you had set up in the camera at the time the photo was taken. The program automatically adds a number in parentheses to the end of the filename (ahead of the extension) so as to prevent the creation of duplicates.Ĭlick the OK button and the program will begin converting all of the selected files.
You can leave this dialog set to the defaults (Do Not Modify) and you’ll get files named the same as your starting files except with the. The lower section allows you to set up how the resulting extracted files will be named. I just leave that at the default because it doesn’t matter to me and probably won’t for you either. This just sets an arbitrary “Pixels per inch” setting which would only be relevant if you had some sort of printing setup that didn’t allow you to size the print to fit the print size you want.

The Output resolution is actually somewhat irrelevant because the resulting files will be at full resolution regardless. If you select JPEG as the output type, 8 bit / ch is automatically selected because that is the only possible bit depth for a JPEG file. And if you don’t like it later, you can go back and just do this again and try a different setting. But this is a choice you have to make for yourself. I tend to use setting 3 to get good quality yet not quite the huge files of setting 4.
Set the Quality to one of four choices depending on how much JPEG compression you can tolerate. In the middle section (Output Settings), you can set up the characteristics of the resulting Files. In the upper section (Save Folder), you may select the location for the resulting JPEG files. This will bring up a small dialog box with three sections. In that pull-down menu, click the item “Convert and Save in file”. Click that menu item and a drop down menu should appear. Now, in the upper left hand corner of the main program window, you should find a menu item called “File(F)”. This should leave all of the photos selected. Holding the shift key down, click (select) the last one. Once EVU has made its thumbnails select (click) the first one (upper left hand corner). When this directory is selected, EVU will begin building thumbnails for all of the photos in that directory. In the left-hand “explorer view” pane, navigate to the directory containing your CR2 files. Unless I’ve got something preset that isn’t in the default settings, this should work:
